I know everyone is hung up on 454 motors for everything it seems. For the year of the car I would go with the 327, as far as the transmisson I don't think the trans will be the issue. You need to find the bell housing that will bolt up to both the motor and trans. There are so many after market options out there that may not be an issue either. I wish I had more knowledge on what set up would best for you.
