Caifornia Trip part deux
On Sunday we went to the California Science Center, where the space shuttle Endeavor is on display. My cousin, works there and took us on a private tour. We went in at 8:30, doors don't open until 10. Nice having the whole place to ourselves, no kids running around screaming and cutting in front of you. Watched an IMAX 3D movie of the Hubble Telescope, very cool. The LA Natural History Museum is there as well and we did that too.
Side note, you may have seen commercials of the Toyota pickup pulling the space shuttle to the science center. Yea, it pulled it somewhere between 400-500 feet before the trans gave up. Funny how how they didn't mention that in the commercials.
Took a drive along the Angele's Crest Highway, visited the Griffith Park Observatory. Toured the USS Iowa, same class destroyer as the 'Mighty Moe', the USS Missouri. Lynda and I toured the Missouri a few years ago at Pearl Harbor. Impressive ships, the Iowa took a direct hit to one of the 16" gun turrets from a 5" diameter Japanese shell during a battle. After the shelling stopped the men came out of the turret for a break and said "What the hell is that?" Some paint scraped off and shrapnel on the deck, they didn't even know they got hit and no damage done.
Walked out on the Santa Monica peer and had dinner at Bubba Gumps. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, we packed a lot into those few days. Oh, went to the Rose Bowl, my son wanted to see that. I wanted to drive by the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. One of the old Burroughs plants was next door, I spent quite a bit of time at that plant. There was construction going on so we didn't waste the time trying to get there. Guess that's about it.
