Most of the generics just stole R&D from HP, and started making their own castings. They don't flow well, they have no meat for surfacing or portingfor hi-po printing, and the tolerances are lackluster at best. I've seen many a knock-off cartridges that barely line up with the holes in the printer block, and crack as soon as you launch one at 5000 pages/minute.
For real though, some idiot bought one of those $2 today cartridges and thinks he's getting over on someone.
