That's what I had done and it was very successful for me. But generally speaking the discectomy is generally just a temporary solution before a fusion surgery. At least that's what I've been told. Good luck with the therapy. Have you had the injections yet? For me the injections helped a lot with the pain but once the nerve damage became so bad I couldn't straighten my leg I had the surgery.
