Smile My mom still nags at me!

Kind of on the other end of the spectrum in what's going on in my life now,but my mom at 86 can still kick my butt and she knows it. After my step-father died 3 years ago,I have taken over all of the maintenance on my moms house. The older I get the more of a task it becomes, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I go down there every Wednesday and Sunday. Today, she was worried about me working in the heat, bringing me water and making me take a break to eat. She was complaining about my tan, saying she would'nt recognize me on the street! And she always mentions how I "tear" out of her house in "that old car of mine" With what's happening now,it just makes me appreciate mom a little more, and she can nag on me all she wants. Yes mom,I promise to quit smoking............

My mom is a real hoot! I call her every day and she always asks me if there is anything she can do for Maureen. She has never said anything, but I can detect a little bit of jealousy toward my mom. Maureens mother has basically been an invalid for the past 5 years.

Does Maureen have a good relationship with your mom? I hope that after Maureen's mom passes that she spends some time with your mom. Just to give Maureen some peace.

Not really, like I said always a little bit of jealousy there. My mom was a hard worker, her mom the country club and bridge set.Maureen, always envied mine for the things we did for each other.

I miss my mom and wish many times she was here to nag or give advice.

During the years that I cared for her we got so close (we were always close), and we did so much together that I was lulled into a false sense of security that mom would never leave me.
I know in my heart and soul she is still here but that does not diminish the fact that I miss her smile and her voice everyday.

Sometimes I can still hear her saying "now don't do that" or "you can't have that" etc. in her loving way that I will cherish forever.

I learned many years ago to always say "I love you", and mean it, whenever I talk to my mom, my husband and my kids.

My father passed away when I was 9 years old. I remember getting up in the middle of the night and my dad was talking to my uncle on the phone. He was laughing and had a beer in his hand, like my dad always did. I was up early the next morning as my dad left for work. I remember seeing him as he was heading out the door, and as he always did, he said "I love you sweetie, see you soon". That was the last time I saw my father alive. He was a master mechanic, he was at work and had a massive heart attack while working on the motor of a car. The doctors said that he was probably dead before he hit the floor.

I will always remember that day, not with total sadness, but because I got to tell him I love you and him telling me. I miss him everyday, the chubby man, with a heart of gold that would do anything for anyone. The man that made my mom so happy, and spent all his time with his 6 kids. But most of all for the man who drove the little red Rambler and who shared his love for cars with me.

Remember and embrace every moment, for life can change in a moment.

Your mom is worried about you. She knows you are going through a tough time with Maureen and you mother-in-law. She loves you.
