Yesterday, there was a Halloween Car Show in Holly, Michigan and I thought it would be great to take the kids. The write-up said that there would be cars in costumes (decorated for Halloween), adults and children in costumes and the whole town of Holly decorated. I thought it would be a lot of fun for the kids.
Being that Holly was 45 miles from my house, up I-75, at the beginning of rush hour, I knew that we needed to leave as soon as the kids got home from school. We left my house about 4pm, kids were late of course. I wasn't on the e-way for more than 10 minutes and it happened. I was heading north on I-75 coming up to the Lapeer Road exit. For those of you that are not familiar with that part of the e-way, you go up a hill and then it is a curve to the left as you come to the top of the hill, then the decline with the exit at the bottom of the hill. I was traveling in the right lane cause I was only doing 65 mph. As I was going up the hill I saw the red from the tail lights ahead of me, so I started to slow down. When I got to the top of the hill traffic in the right lane was at a complete stop, but the other lanes were still traveling pretty fast, and for whatever reason I left a lot of room between me and the car in front of me. I looked in my rear view mirror, as I always do...and there it was...a Jeep, coming at me FAST, really fast, with no where to go. The Jeep slammed on his brakes and started sliding, and my first reaction was I needed to get the hell out of his way. I put my foot to the floor and went into defensive mode. I had my 3 kids in my car and this Jeep was not going to take us, or my car, out. I honestly don't know how he missed me, I don't know how I managed to get into the 2nd lane without hitting anyone, and I don't know how I didn't hit the car in front of me. All I know is that he ended up way past where I was sitting in traffic, almost hit the car that was in front of me. The kids didn't know any of this, they all had their I-pods and earphones on. The only reason they knew anything was wrong is that they were thrown back in their seats and mom screamed "Hold On". I am very lucky....someone was looking out for my family yesterday....

I wasn't bad when I was at the show. The drive home was a little cautious. But, I think I was more shook up when I got home.

Glad to here you are OK. I always leave room just for that reason any more. Any more you have to drive with one eye on the rear view mirror all the time.

Thanks guys. The show was great, just have to download the pics off the camera. Actually I probably have the last 5 shows on the camera. I am so behind, just have had another project I was working on. Then tomorrow is the Michigan Chevelle Club Show at Chucks house. Sunday is the show in Clawson. Busy, busy, busy...
