Default man i am getting old!

so we started up a basketball league here in my area and we invited a few friends and some other people in the community. Its something that all of the money for the league goes to the local pto. so lastnight was our first night. i am not the oldest one there but i am not the youngest one also. I am 33 years old and i played basketball and football my whole life up until i graduated college. I would play pick up basketball during the summer maybe 3 times a week until i got married. that went from 3 to maybe 3 times a month..lol. So now we are playing every weds night from 6:30 until we are tired. we have 16 members and lastnight i played 9 full court games and ended just shy of 9:45. when i got home lastnight i told my wife man i am going to sleep good! i woke up for work today and i am so sore and my right knee is swollen, i texted all my other buddies (27-32) and my brother who played (he is 25) and they all told me how sore they are and body parts that hurt...lol it sucks getting old but man it was fun cant wait for next weds

Keep up the good workouts cause it gets much harder the older you get.

Staying active and keeping flexible keeps a body from aging quickly ... and then there is the diet thang, crap in/crap out. But excersise should be done in slow increasing increments. I would suggest you use your brain more and muscles less in the beginning... let the other guys "fall out".

Maybe some warm-ups or stretching before you go all out might help.

I'll be 39 in a few months. Aside from my spine being crushed when I was in the Army, I'm in pretty rough shape. I look fine, but I walk funny and sometimes my feet go numb. My wrists are shot too. ...and my knees. Take it from me, save some for later. Don't use yourself up now. You have a LONG way to go before you can sit in a rocking chair and reminisce about the good ole' days. Or you could be like me and be sitting in a wheel chair thinking how easy it was to get around a few years ago.

I agree with you Alan. When we are younger we think that we are invincible. We hurt ourselves, and don't go to the doctor cause it will get better.

Years ago I was playing baseball and tore all the ligaments in both ankles. I was still in High School but I remember the pain vividly. I have always had limited mobility in both ankles, then about 5 yrs ago I hurt one of my ankles again. Some days are better than others, but there is always some pain.

It is too bad that some of us learn to take better care of our body in our later years.

Some people are just built for that type of activity. And I wish that I was one of them.
