As some of you may remember, I have been searching for a 1972 SS 454 Chevelle that my parents bought brand new. I had also been looking for their 77' Trans Am that my dad purchased new as well. (for roughly 3 years now)
I had the VIN# for the TA, but ad come up empty-handed every time I had searched. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and I get a PM via a board I am an admin on. In that PM, I had a gentleman claim that he was 99% sure he had the car. I had him tell me a few details and send me a few pictures. I was fairly sure it was one in the same since he searched the VIN and it led him to a thread I had started on that board. He then emailed me some photos of paperwork that he had gotten with the car. That 110% confirmed that he has the car. One of the pieces of paperwork had my father's name, address, and phone number from 1977 when he bought the car new. I was extremely excited, the car is in amazing shape and still has very low miles. The old man was very happy to see that his old car was in great shape and being lovingly cared for. He sold it with barely 3700 miles on it right before I was born. It currently has about 44K miles on the clock. Here is where it gets interesting... my father still has the original window sticker, gas mileage sticker, and bill of sale. We are going to be mailing the current owner these documents so that the paperwork can be reunited with the car. Here are a few vintage photos of the car shortly after my dad bought it. Sorry for the poor quality, I had to take pictures of them with my cell phone for now. ![]() ![]()

Great story! I've been keeping my eyes open too for the 72 LS5 your dad had. I'll be going to a big show on July 8th and there should about 2k muscle cars there and usually lots of 72s I've never seen before. I'll look out for the W code vin and will get the contact info if I think I found it.

What a great story, and it sounds like you are 1/2 way there in your search. One car down and one to go. When you talked to the current owner of the TA did you show him any interest in the car if he ever sold it ? That is if you are interested in it. Good luck with your ongoing search.

I would love to own the car, but I highly doubt he would ever sell it. He seems to be very well off. I may ask that if he does ever decide to sell - that I would have first crack at it. My dad will be 62 next month, and his health isn't that great. Unless I could buy it in the next year or two, he most likely wouldn't be well enough to enjoy the car.
I am still trying a few things to find the Chevelle. Or at least get the VIN #. That car may be in rough shape, and therefore more affordable. I would be sure to not tell anyone that I found it until I was able to purchase the car, for fear that someone might try to use the sentimental value against me for their own financial gains. I have heard a few horror stories about that very act.

Great story and a nice car ,I have had and loved Trans Am's since I was very young .There is nothing to me that drives and handles like a T/A .I need to get ours finished up inside but have to wait for the 55 to sell to start any other projects .Good luck on the search for the Chevelle.
