Default My Son Is Moving Out!!

Like the title says, my son is moving out by that I mean out of the house and out of the state. He's been talking about moving out to Colorado for a couple years now. He has a friend stationed in Colorado, Springs through the Air Force. His friend is letting him stay with him until he finds a job and gets on his feet. He finally decided it was time to make the move. He's 24 years old. This will be his first time out on his own. The reality will probably set in after he's gone. I love him very much and wish him the best.

Brian,
Congratulations ??? I know how hard it was on me when my kids moved out. I was so happy to have the space, but sad to see them go, happy to have privacy, sad not to be able to see them. It is a catch 22 situation.

Best of luck to him Brian. Just be sure that he understands that it's cruel world out there.

I couldn't agree more Nancy. I will truly miss him very much. As a parent, I want so much for him to make the right decisions in life and want to help him with that, but I know at 24 yrs. old he is capable of doing that his self.....I hope.
It was definitely much harder to let go then I thought.

I was glad to see my son step out on his own and sad at the same time. Always knew that day would come some day. At least he stayed in the area unlike my daughter who moved as far away as she could get. Best of luck to him and you.

Thanks Tony! I told him that there are people out there that act like your best new friends, but are looking for what they can get out of you and don't have very good intentions. Hopefully he sees that before it becomes a problem.
Thanks again!

Brian, you have to trust that you have given him a good set of morals and values so that he will make it. When my kids moved away, I always tried to talk to them at least once or twice a week until they were comfortable. He will think you are checking up on him, which you are, but he will also understand that you are there to listen and help him make the right decisions.

Great advice Nancy! I've been texting him every so often to keep the line of communication open. He left this past Friday night and arrived at his new home 1400 miles away about 2:30 pm Saturday. He seems happy. He went to a concert by him self in Denver last night. I'll have give him a call later today to see how it went.
Thanks.

It is always hard to know when to stop making those calls and texts. But it sounds like you have a great relationship with your son. It will only get stronger as he becomes more self sufficient. He may not talk to you as often, but when he does, those conversations will be easy, just like talking to a best friend.
