I was going in to the pool area when I got home from work tonight to turn the pump off,and left the gate open. No big deal as the dogs know to stay away from the water. Well, I forgot that this is Malibus first summer here. She catches sight of me and proceeds to walk right on the solar cover,slowly sinking with a look of panic on her face! I was laughing so hard,it was one of the funniest things. I really had to act fast,no time to get the wife or camera.Sure hope my watch is still water proof..

My Daughters cat tried that on our solar blanket also. After taking a swim she never came near the pool again. It was funny.

Grumpy and I decided many years ago that since we had 6 kids, we would not have pets. Over the years we have considered pets, even went to the local shelter to adopt one, filled out the application, then were grilled about why we never had pets and so much more. They even wanted to know if why now we wanted a pet. It was unbelievable how aweful we were treated. I know that their concern was for the animals, but wouldn't it have been better for a pet to be cared for and loved than to live in a cage. Anyway, my kids have owned Guinea Pigs and now fish. But everytime you guys post about your animals I let them read them and they love them, especially the ones with pictures.

I am done ranting now...

I know what you mean Ms Grumpy! When me and Mary went to get Charlie they made us feel like we didn't deserve to have a pet. I almost felt as if Charlie was a human child and we were scum or something to them. Here's a picture of our two pets. Charlie is the one with his ears up and Mixie is laying down. Yep black cats cross my path all the time; it could explain my bad luck sometimes.

I can fell your pain Nancy on how tough it is to adopt a pet. The animal shelter I am a supporter of does the same thing,and I disagree with it. I really do not have the time to devote to being on the board of directors'but a donor does not have much say..... As far as our puppies go,my wife and daughter go through a long interview process even a background check before they sell a dog.The new owner has to sign a contract,one of the stips is not to breed the dog unless it's a show quality pup,which they still have a say in what goes on with the dog.

I know that some breeders try to make sure that the people who purchase them are not going to abuse them and will take care of them. I totally understand that.

But, I want to tell you a story about my mom. About 2 years ago my sister bought my mother a dog, without her prior knowledge. My mother had just retired and make a comment that she was "thinking" about getting a pet, but she could not get a cat cause she lived with another sister who was allergic to cats.

As it turns out this dog was a cute puppy, it had alot of energy and mom figured that "Daisy" would mellow out. Well Daisy has gotten worse, alot worse. Mom moved into a condo about 5 months ago, we all thought that maybe this would help, but NO. My mom is on the fence about giving the dog back to the original breeder. My mother has taken phenominal care of this animal. It had been mauled by my sisters, neighbors dog. My mom paid thousands and thousands of dollars to save this animal. So it is not that she doesn't love Daisy, she just makes my mom nervous, and it is hard for my mom to leave her alone for more than 3 hours.

You guys seem to know a bit about animals. Any suggestions.

If it were one of our dogs we sold,we would take it back in a heartbeat. We have done it in the past.....

Our mini pomeranian did that same thing on our pool cover but she is small enough she didn't sink. She stood there for a few minutes looking bewildered until I was able to coax her back to the side. She doesn't go near the pool now!
