Default question about powerglide.

Test drove a 64 chevelle, 283 with powerglide. When you mashed the gas at moderate speed, the transmission didn't downshift into passing gear, am I correct that it should have? IS there supposed to be a mechanical linkage from the transmission to the carb? The transmission in this car had a spring loaded level on the drivers side that was not connected to anything, is that the kickdown lever? thanks, for any help, runner

Yes it should downshift, depending on what speed you were going, remember its only a 2 speed trans. Been a long time but I'm pretty sure it has throttle linkage.

You should have kick down linkage on it unless it's a full manual valve body. I'd bet it's just disconnected or not adjusted properly.

Here's a picture of the linkage rod itself.

thanks for the replies, I think the linkage is missing on the one I looked at.
