Default 69 SS396 4 gear

Hi guys, well I couldn't pass up this poor Chevelle. I was going to restore it since its a unique color combo and its a 4 gear. 2 weeks ago I had an accident at my shop and I am now on the couch waiting for surgery to my knee and I need cash fast. So I would like to sell it.

This Chevelle started out as a Dover white with black stripe (down the side) Dark Blue vinyl top SS396 4 speed 4.10 12 bolt rear and had blue Comfort Weave interior with bucket seats. Built in Kentucky the third week in October. With Kentucky built SS396s they contain an L in the body tag, which this car has.

Engine: It has a very good running 396 in it the starts with no problem and doesn’t smoke or knock. It has been modified over the years with a large solid lifter cam and forged pistons, oval port heads, Hooker 2 inch headers, 2.5 inch magna flow mufflers, and new Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap intake. It also has a Holley 750 Vacuum secondaries on it. This engine has incredible power!

Trans: Muncie M21 here that I believe is the numbers matching trans with a old Hurst Verti-gate shifter. Trans works perfect with zero noises and very good shifting. The shifter is old and really needs to go and put a stock H pattern hurst in its place. The clutch works great although the throw out bearing is noisey right as you let the clutch out.

Rearend: Correct 12 bolt rear and I believe it to be the original to the car. It has 4.10 gears and a factory posi unit in it. It works perfectly and is quiet. One unique thing is the rear diff cover. Its an ancient ET speed part which goes with all the other old cool speed parts that are scattered throughout the car.

Body: Okay here is the tough part of this car. It has rust. It is rust from being out in the elements in Arizona where it sat for many years. It was an original vinyl top car and when that dried up and tore off it was left to the elements. It rust out the roof skin and then drained down into the quarters and trunk floor. So what this car needs (obviously) is a full resto with the following panels:

Roof skin
Both full quarters
Full trunk floor
A new 4 speed hump (cut for Vertigate shifter)
Patches at the bottoms of the front fenders
One patch on the front of the hood
Speaker tray

I went OPGI’s website and priced out all the needed sheetmetal and the total was $1837. If you win the auction and want the sheetmetal and save on shipping I would be willing to drive over to OPGI and pick them up and put them in the car for shipping. Okay now that’s out of the way lets talk about the good. It has perfect floors, doors, trunk lid, frame, and has never been in a major accident. All in all it doesn’t need anything more than a usual resto but it looks worse than it really is.

Chassis: The frame is straight and rust free. The suspension will need to be rebuilt. It has all the SS specific parts present disc brakes, 12 bolt rear, and boxed control arms. It also has those old school ladder bar-anti hop bars on it still. It drives okay but it needs an alignment and probably some front end work to go with it.

Overall: This is a true SS396 car that is currently registered and drives, not yard drive but take it to the local cruise and watch everyone run past the restored cars to look at this project.
