The local news reported that flu shots were found to be only 60% effective at preventing the flu. For years they said the shot would not give you the flu, BUT you may experience "flu-like symptoms" for a few days.
REALLY? Since I only had pneumonia for 6 days, 3-5 days of "flu-like symptoms" sounds A LOT like getting the flu! Now they say the shot is only 60% effective. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 60% is dangerously close to 50%. If I'm close to a 50/50 chance of getting the flu WITH a flu shot, then why the heck would I even bother with it??!! I get the same odds without a flu shot! This is just my opinion, but I think someone has gotten some serious financial gain from telling the general public they have to have a flu shot or they'll be sorry. Of course the media hasn't helped things any by pressing their importance. BUT once you take a hard look at the numbers, it appears it just doesn't matter if you get one or not. Funny, this has been my position on the subject for years! I never got a flu shot in the '70's or '80's and yet I'm still here.
