Im planning on building a new shop in the distant future as I am out of room in my current one .Im thinking maybe 30 x 50 with 3 bays and an entry door .Would a 12 ft ceiling allow for a lift if I can ever afford one ? Im going to talk to a local builder for some prices as it may have to start out as a pole barn to be enclosed later .I will be checking on grading as well to see what I can do and when .Right now I will be gathering info and planning ,will let ya'll know when things get interesting .

I with you here. I need to add on to mine. This car needs someplace to sit where I don't need a floor jack to get it out when it is done. Place for the chev and whatever isn't being driven at the time. Then I can fill the work bay with a car for my youngin.
He already claiming mine. |

Everyone I know who has built a shop ends up building another one. Build it and the will fill up. I have been wanting to build one.

John...you need to get with my buddy Tim. He's in the process of building a shop the same size right now...clearing the land starts this week, I believe.
And just an FYI...Nick Lewis has a nice 4 post lift for sale...cheap!!

If you feel 30 X 50 is what you need, go bigger. At least 60 X 40 IMHO. I also feel 12 ft ceilings are on the conservative side. 16 ft would be safer.

Tim lives right off Hwy 20, east of I-575, on a small dead end road... between Scott Rd and Union Hill...on the same side of Hwy 20 as the Forest Creek subdivision.

Build as big as you can afford. There never large enough.

John. 12 foot will be enough for a lift, but like carpoor said, go taller if you can. If the hood is open when you raise the car, 12 foot is close to hitting. Too close for comfort. Put some pictures up from the day you start clearing land. We likes some pictures! I agree with the others on size. Go as big as you can.
