ok so i went to my chevelle today to check out the gas tank and to see if i have a sending unit on it and sure enough i took the tank off and boom a sending unit is on the tank. but it has a wire kind of just hanging there. no end no connector just sitting there. is that a bad thing? and all i would need is this harness right?
![]() and what do i do as far as the fuel line from the unit to the front of the car. do you guys use a steel line or do you do a braided line? rubber line? school me please

Your sending unit may be fine, but yes they can go bad. Most of the time it is a ground issue if it doesn't work. The fuel line along the frame is steel, but to install it with the body on the frame the body has to be lifted up some. There is a rubber hose between the end of the steel line and the gas tank that connects to the sending unit. The fuel line runs down the right side of the frame on my 70, I believe that is true on a 69.

The sending unit is like a float that raises and lowers as you use gas, like a toilet float. If the float cracks and gets gas in it it will not work correctly. Or if it has been in a tank with out gas in it might rust inside the tank and not work correctly. A gas gauge could go bad too. It all depends on how the car has been stored, moisture, etc.

I replaced my sending unit on my car rather then having to pull the tank again if the old one didn't work.
