Default I want to quiet down my exhaust..I need some help.

I currently have the Flowmaster American Thunder system on my car. I want to quiet it down so I need to know what you guys think would help, because the Flowmaster 40's are just too loud. Don't get me wrong, I like the rumble, but I plan on driving this and it is just too loud for distance driving. I just don't want the droning.

Change the mufflers, my choice would be the largest case Magnaflows you can fit. Or, similar-sized Dynomax UltraFlows. Do you have an X or H crossover in the system? That will help too. As will some small bullet mufflers installed in the tail pipes. All of those mods will tone it down quite a bit, but not kill power.

Just my $0.10 worth based on prior experience.

I have the "H" crossover. We were looking at the Dynomax Ultra Flows. I am going to do more research to make sure that I don't lose power.

The Ultraflows won't give up any power vs. the flowmasters. If anything, it might pick up a little.

Also, check out this article - http://www.pontiacstreetperformance....p/exhaust.html

Very informative and factual.

We have been looking at the resinators.

The main body of the muffler is 16 1/2" and is side in/side out, with 2 1/2" pipes.

I ran the Dynomx Ultra Flows on my 427 Nova. 2 1/2" Torq-Tech duals, Hooker headers, 450 HP engine. At below 3500, they were not real loud, but anything above that and they were way too loud. They made a "blatting" noise. I changed the mufflers to the Turbo ones. Much better sound.

This is the style of muffler I was referring to...

And I had forgotten about these as an option...

I actually got to be on a panel to discuss these mufflers before they released them a few years ago. Got paid $100 to show up and discuss + give opinion. Haven't tried them, but pretty cool concept. I am planning to use a pair of Magnaflows on my Chevelle, but a pair of the VT mufflers may be in my future instead.
