I am in the same boat as you are ,I work out 5 days a week for at least an hour each time and still not losing much. I eat fat free and low sodium and low calorie (about 1100 calories per day) and still have a hard time losing the weight.

How many carbs are you consuming per day? Days of low activity, limit it to 50g or less. Higher activity, 100g max. How many times a day do you eat? Try to eat 3 meals, with at least two small snacks in between. I try to eat every 3-4 hours. I have breakfast around 3am, head to work. Have a small snack around 6:30am. Then another small snack around 10-10:30am, lunch at 12 - 12:30. A snack again around 3:00 - 3:30, then dinner around 6-ish. Sometimes I don't have time and will skip a snack here and there. But, I make a point to eat at least 5 times a day. (3 modest size meals, and two snacks between meals) I avoid soda, and drink water like it is going out of style.
When I say snacks, I eat things like raw almonds, boiled eggs - no yolks, blue berries, a piece of grilled chicken, or a protein bar. In my mid 20's, I was 40 lbs heavier than I am now. I changed some of my habits and stay fairly active. The weight has stayed off. Also, what kind of exercises do you do? Lots of cardio is what you want to melt off the weight. (jogging, walking, cycling, etc) Heavy lifting adds bulk and mass. Good for strength, counter productive to slimming down.

I always thought if you eat smaller portions (no sugar) and exercise you would lose the weight. When ever I went to a restaurant , I would only eat half of what they gave me and took the rest home for another meal. I did this a few years ago and lost over 50lbs. People thought I was sick cause I went from 215 to 155 in a year. I need to get off the see food diet and start doing what I did years before. I also think it's harder to lose the weight the older you get.
Good luck!

I live by this, enriched products - bread, pasta, etc. is also artery clogging. Each and every one of us is different, and how our bodies process is different. But, given my family's heart problem history - I avoid a lot of things that I used to "indulge" in. Quote:
