Default Thieves Suck

Joan called me as I arrived at the bodyshop today after work telling me that LEO's were all over our neighborhood with dogs tracking 3 guys that broke into a house and the lady was home while they were ransacking their basement when the young son came in on them from school. One of the guys flashed a hand gun as they ran away ,our whole area is on edge as they got away. We have been having break ins in our area for the last several weeks but it was allways when no body was home and we didnt know they were armed .I think its time to get the 12 ga pump loaded with slugs just in case ,I dont want to face them empty handed. We have never had this sort of thing here before and the cops think its someone living amongst us. This sucks.

You are probably right ,I hate it .We live in a community where people used to not even lock the doors .We will be on the lookout for everything while we are home but we are gone more than home.

The most devastating sound in the world: 12 gauge pump racking a shell. I would go with bird shot though. Slugs tend to travel through the walls of your house and the neighbors house. I sure hope you guys get to the bottom of it. You're probably right about it being someone living amongst you.

Just remember if you pull out a gun you better be prepared to use it. To many pull out a gun and really are afraid to do anything with it. Last thing you want to do is have someone take it away from you. I have been robbed once and it's not a good feeling coming home and finding your house has been gone through.

You need to stagger the rounds. First round of bird-shot, followed by #4 buckshot. Repeat. And shoot to kill. A slug has to be dead nuts on, the others will have a good pattern.

Exactly. Even as large as #00 buckshot would be better than a slug.

I do one round of birdshot, and the rest 00-buck.

Slugs have too great of chance for over-penetration, and birdshot doesn't have enough power to drop a guy and keep him down, unless he's standing right at the end of the barrell.

Good luck John, hope they get the guys before any one gets hurt. As mentioned, a 12g is probably the best home defense weapon you can have. Hope you never have to use it but you have to do what you have to do.

Our whole neighborhood is upset since this has been ongoing for three weeks now .The LEO's being in the neighborhood alot has not had an effect on the break-ins at all and we are very surprised it is being kept very quite ,not news worthy I guess. They are doing road blocks fairly often but we dont even know if they have any leads .I dont like the idea of using my gun but I dont know what else to do. I dont own a handgun and dont really want one .I suspect they are walking the power lines through the pastures surrounding our entire area but dont really know that .We are all on edge and watching everyone passing through now .
