Unhappy Giving the beauty to my 16 year old....ugh!

I originally bought the car 18 months ago for my daughter.....she was the one that saw it on Craiglist & hand picked it. Spent alot of hours & dollars getting it to where it is a dependable daily driver for her. Now it is time for her to get her "restricted" liscense & be on her own. Being a father.......I fear for her & the well being of the car.....being a parent sucks sometimes. Hope all goes well, I'll probably cry if it dosen't.

What do you guys think?

Looks great! I think even as a 4 door it is a pretty awesome car! Hopefully it is a reliable and safe vehicle for your daughter! Think she'll regret not getting something a bit more "modern" with A/C & all the newer car features after a long hot South Carolina summer?

You should have made her do the work on it, then she'd really make sure nothing happened to it. Then again, if she found it and decided it was the car she wants she should know how hard it was to find one like that and she would know the replacement value so she should be extra careful. I do however suggest talking to the insurance company and working out an "agreed value" as opposed to book value. They will send out an adjuster to go over the car and basically give an appraisal or depending on the company will just have you do an appraisal or 3 and use the median value. I had one hell of a time getting the money back for my Suburban after it got totalled with the big block, fresh transmission, new detroit locker and cowl induction hood, plow etc... Did I mention I want to be your kid???

Nice car for a 16 year old. I agree hope she appreciates all you have done on it. Sometime I wondered if I would have put one of my kids in a chevelle since there are alot better cars out there that are safer now then back when the chevelles were made. Especially with airbags and better seat belts systems. Hope she enjoys it.

Long term....after the initial fun & attention she'll get for driving it to school is all over, I think she'll realize that she wants something with A/C, better heat and rides smoother/quieter. Also....I told her she gets "1" tank of gas a week, she's not gonna like that in this beast.

If she's smart she will teach her friends from the get go, that they have to contribute to the gas tank to ride in her car. I had a "74 suburban with a 454 when I was a senior in high school. My friends used to love to cruise in it cause we could pack 8 girls in it. But they all knew that it got crappy gas mileage and they had to fork over the cash to cruise. Funny thing was, I was turning down friends all the time.
