Default I had an interesting weekend.

About a week and half ago, I was messing around the house and felt something tear in a stomach muscle. It didn't feel good and definitely not right. The next morning the area was a little puffed up and pretty sore. Okay, I have a hernia so make an appointment with a surgeon. Appointment was actually for this morning.

Well the area continued to swell and hurt more. It was hard as a rock and started turning red and felt like it was burning. Well come Saturday morning I decided I wasn't going to make it until today and it's not just a hernia. So off to the er. They did a CT scan, said there is a fluid buildup and we're going to admit you. The surgeons will come see you in the morning.

So Sunday morning the surgeon and a surgical resident take a look. Well we're going to have to open it up said the surgeon and they left. A little later the resident comes back with a bunch of stuff, they neglected to say they were going to do it right there in the hospital room. First she started by injecting a big syringe of lidocaine. Now lidocaine burns when it's first injected, did I mention that the area was swollen, hard as a rock and felt like it was burning?

After I came down off the ceiling she cut it open, not too bad. Now I have to squeeze she said. Did I mention how swollen it was and how much it hurt? So after I came down off the ceiling she starts probing around inside with a long cotton swab. Did I mention how sensitive the area was and how much it hurt? So after I came down off the ceiling she said she had to put some packing material in it. I did mention how painful the area was didn't I? After I came down off the ceiling she covered it with some cotton pads and left.

Monday morning she comes in and informs she has to remove the packing. Not very comfortable but at least bearable. Then she informs me she has to stuff some more in. She made several attempts and after I came down off the ceiling she said maybe we'll just leave it out. I said that sounded like an excellent plan.

So I kept my appointment with the surgeon this morning. I wanted to know what happened. How do you get an infection down inside the muscle when there are no cuts, scrapes, etc. Now this is the interesting part. I had abdominal surgery decades ago. The surgeon said there could have been some bacteria in the incision. The body walled it off and the bacteria lied dormant all this time. Whatever I did tore it open and the bacteria started to grow and spread. Crazy shit, uh?

WOW!

It sounds like you spent a good deal of time on the ceiling! I'm glad you're ok, though. That's one for the books.

Ya, my feet are back on the floor now. A little sore still but a lot better now. Next time I go to the hospital I'll make sure they knock me out before they do any surgical procedures.

I may not be a degreed Doctor but I play one on the forum, but I'm thinking it could be the mixture of Bon bons and and beer. Take a couple aspirins and call me Friday.

So did the doc/surgeon actually say it was a hernia ? Or just the infection ? If it was just the infection, it still sounds like it came thru the muscle wall and will have to go back in. Are they going to just push it back in, after the infection is gone. Or will they have to do surgery ? It is sad that I know so much about hernias.

No hernia, just infection in the muscle wall. It will heal up on it's own. The incision is about 1/2" long, they didn't stitch it closed. They want it to heal from the inside out. Stitching it closed would trap the infection inside.

I have no restrictions at all, except to take aspirin with plenty of beer as suggested by Dr. Ric. Hey Ric, you think it would be okay to substitute Norco for the aspirin? It seems to work better with beer and aspirin is a blood thinner. Don't want to bleed out all over the place. I don't like cleaning up blood and Lynda would be really pissed if she had to do it.

Whoa there! Dr. Tee is in the house. So Hank, could this possibly be a creature of some sort trying to dig his way out? Maybe an evil "Little Hank"? We need to know for sure, so here is what this old Saw-bones recomends. Get a fifth of good sippin whiskey. Pour a little around that cut. You will need to open the cut up. 1/2" aint going to be big enough. Take two fingers and start digging around in there. If you find something, yank it out. If you don't find anything, well good. Now we know for sure. Now drink the rest of the whiskey.

Sounds like a good plan Tony. I'll give that a shot and let you know the results.
