Default Today Was The Hardest

Today was the hardest day of my life. 8 years ago Judy and I had to put her all white cat "Lucky" that she had for 17 years down because his organs were failing and it was the best for him. Judy said " I don't want another cat".

Well in the lobby of the Vet's office there was this rather large cage with the cutest little all Black kitten that had his paw stretched out trying to get my attention. He got it and I was hooked. We adopted him and when we got him in the house I couldn't breathe because I was allergic to him. We took him back and that broke my heart. I went to my Doctor and asked if there was anything he could do for me? I got 1 shot and that did it. I went back to the vets and took the kitten and rubbed him all over my face and I was ok.

Well we've had "Spookie" for 8 years and he has never really gotten friendly with us or anyone that comes over. 2 weeks ago he went after Judy with no provocation from her at all and he bit her arm. Last Friday he was looking out the front door and I went into the kitchen behind him about 8 - 10 feet away and he came at me with a bushy tail, ears laid back, eyes glazed over, hissing and growling like he wanted to kill me. I called Judy at work and she said call the Vet's. Vet said it sounds like he has a neurological disorder. She said that she could do some tests but they wouldn't be cheap. Medication would also be expensive and there is no guarantee he would get better.

Today at 5:48pm "Spookie" was laid to rest. I'm 68 years old and I cried like a baby because it hurt so bad. Sorry for such a long post but I had to get this off my chest. I don't think we'll be getting another animal for some time if ever.

Sorry for your loss Ken.

I know my turn is coming in the near future...our 14 1/2 old 4lb female Yorkie..."Zoie".
Thankfully she's in good health now. She travels with us everywhere and is older than all 5 of our grandkids who are also all very fond of Zoie.
But she's not getting any younger.

They become family. We lost our dog 3 years ago with no warning. Got sick and 24 hrs later she was gone. Feel your pain.

Sorry to hear that Ken. Worse thing in the world to lose a pet. Condolences to you and the wife.

I am so sorry Ken. An animal is like your child, you feed them, play with them and wonder what they are up to when you don't see them. You know that I have lost 3 cats in the past year to feline leukemia. It never gets any easier.

I had someone tell me that I shouldn't be sad. If it weren't for me and my family these kittens/cats may have never been adopted and lived out their lives in a cage. Instead they were in a home where they were loved.

It takes a special person to adopt a pet and your Spookie knew that. I am sure that Spookie had an amazing 8 years with you and Judy.
