Tough love doesn't mean anything other than, you need to take responsibility for your actions.

If you always bail them out (speaking from my own experience), they will never learn how to say NO. We, as parents need to teach them that, and to let them suffer, at least a little, and to let them figure out how to solve THEIR PROBLEMS.

I always tried to keep the communication open, and I never let them suffer too much, but I did let them know that I wasn't the bank and that they needed to give up something before I helped.
