I am copying a post from Audiokarma, our other site, where we adopt families for the holidays. I just want you to know that David and I believe that it is so important to give back. This is the 4th year that we have done this and every year the members of AK (Audiokarma) put items up for auction to raise money to adopt these families. Many different items are auctioned, if you are interested in looking at the auctions please go to www.audiokarma.org and look up the VOA forum.
"Tonight I talked to a 30 yr old young lady. She has had a really rough year, like many people the economy has hit her family really hard. She told me a year ago she was happily married with 3 kids. Then her husband lost his job and the financial stress destroyed their marriage. She has a very positive attitude about where she is going and she probably told me thank you 100 times for "adopting" her family. Her children are 3 1/2, 9 & 10 1/2. The kids all need winter boots, hats, gloves and 2 need coats. The youngest is a girl who needs winter cloths and loves Dora the explorer. The 9 year old is a girl who likes frilly things, board games and barbies. The oldest is a boy who is into video games and lego. When I asked the mom what she really wanted she told me a toaster oven or electric frying pan. The family also needs dishes, silverware, pots and pans and towels. Sometimes it is hard to get the families to talk about the things that they want because the needs far outweigh the wants. When I asked this mom what she wanted for Christmas she said "I just want my kids to have presents under the Christmas tree". With the generosity of the members here at AK, we are going to make sure that this family has a Christmas. "
