Your oval port heads will be fine for a mildly built big block. It wouldn't hurt to clean the bowls a bit if nothing has ever been done to them. Do you have the casting number on the heads? Also try and keep the cam on the mild side to make lots of torque and you'll have more fun with it with those highway gears.
