My bumpers have pitting and some of the chrome is peeling from the metal. If I get them rechromed I know they'd have to be stripped bare to get all the old stuff off. I'm going to guess you would have to do the same. You might be better off taking them somewhere that does sand blasting and have it blasted off. I'd think they would be thick enough where warping wouldn't be an issue. Then you could paint them like any other panel on a car with good primer and some filler work. Powder coating is always an option too. I had my plow frame coated years ago and it held up pretty damn good with all the salt from the roads in the winter and all the salt from the beach in the summer. It looks a lot better than my rocker panels and doors!
