I don't think it's fair to say because it's a clone you shouldn't pay more than xxx dollars. There's a lot of things that affect the value of a car. Certainly being a true SS adds value but how much? As you said it's just some badging/decoration. If it has the options that make it an SS, big block, 12 bolt rear, F41 suspension, etc. what's the difference if they were installed at the factory or added later?
Personally I think people place too much value on a car being a true, documented SS. I've seen a lot of nice clones, nicer than my real SS, and consider many to be worth more than my car. I think a car should be valued based on what it is today, not what it started out as. Some additional value if it is a real SS? Sure, but how much? That's pretty subjective, you can drive the car and enjoy it, not the build sheet.
