With Michigan's goofy car laws, or rates are in the top five highest, in the country.

Even so I was pleasantly surprised with the 500.00 quote.

$570, I paid $225 with Hagerty for $22k insurance. I do have year of manufacture plates, like historical plates that saves $80 to $100 a year unless MI has changed the law on that.

The YOM plates are the reason for the price difference. Technically your not supposed to drive anywhere with them, only reason I can think of the difference.

No,YOM plates will only save $80-$100. You don't pay the full mandatory catastrophic injury fund rate. You're right, technically they're like historical plates and can only be used during or to and from an event. Never heard of anyone being pulled over for driving with them. Besides there is cruise or show everyday of the week. The Hagerty agent suggested keeping a list in the glove box. If the police do question you, pull it out and say I'm going there.

I forgot to mention,
I have a 1970 plate on my car to. $35 and its nonexpiring. It only expires if you decide to sell the car. You can not transfer the plate to another car. You have to find another one.

Our POS govenor is trying to get that changed. She wants us to have to renew every year. SEMA sent me an email, stateing it looks like the vote will be in Nov. Contact your rep and voice your displeasure with this Bill. I can look up the bill number if you want.

I was also told you can say you are taking it to a mechanic or shop.
