Default 71 chevelle gear indicator repair

HI All

I am new to this so not sure this is where I should be. I just brought home a 71 chevelle. The gear indicator is not working. I have the idiot lights out and have removed over $2 in change from the indicator area. The indicator is now moving freely however the cable has come off and I cannot figure out where to place it. The cable is not broken and I have undone it from the steering column and fed it back into the indicator housing. The return spring is still attached and functioning. Any thoughts? All help is appreciated.

cheers

Welcome Terry, unfortunately I am in the same boat as Gary. But I am sure that someone here will be able to help you. It was a nice day here in Michigan and I am pretty sure that the Michigan guys were out enjoying the weather.

Thanks for the response. I am trying to get the beast ready for our safety inspection here and want everything to work so I can get this car out and show off a bit. This is my first "hot rod" and love all the attention I get. People love to see these old cars.

HI John thanks for the encouragement

I have searched the internet and have come across information but not quite enough to get the job done. Hopefully someone else has experienced this and knows what to look for. I get the impression there might be a plastic post that the cable should attach to. Mine might have broken off but I need to be sure.

cheers
