Jake:

Hang in there!! I'm going through some of the same things in working on my brother's car. Every time I think I have it running good, he catches me a few days later and says something else is wrong. Got to show him how to work on his car!!

I have spent parts of the last 2 summers working on his car and it just never seems to end. But, I hope to be working on my Chevelle in about a month and getting it ready for next year. Don't let it get you down!!

13.85 volts is a little low, if you get the rpms up it should be over 14. Might not hurt to pull the alt and have it tested. One blown diode and it will still charge, not at full capacity though and can drain the battery when not running.

Propane torch is also a good way to check for vacuum leaks too, not messy. Is your vacuum advance working? I heard a vacuum leak on my car, turned out to be the vacuum advance canister leaking.

You mentioned all the heat and humidity, might not hurt to pull the distributor cap and make sure it's dry and no corrosion.

You'll get it Jake, take it one issue at a time. Good luck,
