Not many people think about helping their parents like you do. I agree that without family, we have nothing. Just make sure that you take care of yourself so that you are there for your parents. I hope they know how lucky they are to have a son like you.

Sounds like you have a plan and want to help your parents, that's good. Just don't let life pass you by while you're working. I hear you only get to pass through this way one time.

We all need money, how much is up for debate. You're trying to help your parents, that's commendable. What I was trying to say before is money isn't everything. You can work your butt off, buy the best of everything, but will it make you happy? It may stroke your ego but will it bring you happiness?

Don't get me wrong, you're trying to a great thing for your parents, I'm sure they're proud of you. Just don't lose your perspective. Like I said, I traded overtime for time off. Turned down overtime when I felt I could. The extra money, well I don't think we missed it. We had time to enjoy our children and our life.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I thought long and hard about this. I have decided at 34, with no kids, no wife, etc. - that I need to do this. I just got out of a relationship the first week of February this year, and am not interested in rushing into something else. I think of all of the OT as a way of being to busy to think about things and people that piss me off or get under my skin. I expect to average around 10.5 - 11 hours a day M-F, 6 hours on Sunday, and 6-10 hours on Saturdays when the hours are available. I know this won't last forever, and want to soak up all of the extra hours I can while it lasts. A few guys I work with are putting in 75-80 hours per week in six days time.

At your age and no wife or kids might as well go for it. My son is 33, he works over 60 hrs a week, it varies. He also has over 10 hrs drive time. He likes the money, of course he has little to no life outside work, but like you he his single.

I have always said if you can do it, and it doesn't damage your health or take away from your family, do it while you can. Just make sure you don't over do it.

I'm off tomorrow, but between two jobs, and 6/23 - 6/28... I logged almost 70 hours in those six days.

Hoping to keep racking up the OT, it certainly motivates me. And believe it or not, I haven't lost any weight despite sweating my arse off all week. ::shrug::
