I enjoy being outside all the time and have travel to all kinds of places becuase of my job. It was the office part I hated for ten years and now I'm doing what I love to do.
No stress, no politics to put with, just go out and do my job. It's great.

When I think of it the only job I liked was painting. Was my first job and worked for my dad doing residential and comertial painting.Wasnt easy and he rode my ass but no bs.After he and my step mom split up he went to cali and I started my automotive career.Did it for about 8 years and was working at a chrysler dealer when an opertunity to drive tractor trailers came up.10 year of that fun stuff and had enough.Took a job at a gm dealer and after about four years of that the econamy took a dump and there wasnt enough work comming in to make the money I needed.Went to driving again and the company had lay offs 7 mounths later. Now unemployed for 4 months now and not sure what to do because both industries suck.

Can you get back in to painting again? Start small, advertise in local papers. We always look there first, try to find local people. That's where we found an electrician to replace the main panel and the company that just did our roof.

Quote:
I agree, I wish I could find someone to paint my house that was reasonable, a couple years ago I had a company paint my living room and kitchen (18 foot ceiling in the living room and I'm not to wild about heights) and the best quote was $1500 and I pay for paint. Then when the work was done, it was one kid (about 20) that did the painting and it took him 3 full days and I fiqured if they were paying him $20 a hour it cost them $480 to pay him...the rest went for profit for the guy that hired him. While I understand everyone needs to make a profit but that is out of line if you ask me. I rather pay someone who knows how to paint and has the equipment and pay them $50 a hour and they make the extra.

Im thinking of doint that. The start up cost is small considering you dont have to rent or lease a bulding.Im suposed to be helping my dad this mounth with a job in mass.Want to run the idea of helping him more even if I have to travel to Michigan so he can teach me how to give good price quotes and get back into it.Mabye even see if he would want to expand his existing business to the east.Only good thing about being unimployed is it gives me a little time to figure something out.

I love going to the office. Turning my own key is great. I've owned my company for 17 years now. 9 employees count on me to eat and pay their bills. It's gratifying to watch my creation work and grow. Lot of pressure but I deal with it through my family. Especially my Grandkids. Awesome. I thank God everyday for my life.
