Yeah, it had blob of what appeared to be a sort of expanding foam, a soft glue or something. I actually didn't replace it with anything. I haven't done a ton of looking but I haven't read anything about having to replace it with something else.

I've been piddling around with the car last few days cleaning up some more spot welds and doing a few things here and there. Tonight I got the fuel tank installed and also managed to get the front sway bar installed. I had to twist the bushings with a pair of channel locks to get them lined up. I looking at some radiators and realized the one I have on the car is the small one. I did some digging around and found a brand new radiator I have for a spare for my old truck and come to find out it's the same one used for the big blocks in the cars so I bought everything to convert the radiator over to the bigger one and I'm going to the junk yard tomorrow after work and buying a set of electric fans out of Ford Windstar for 50 bucks! I'm also stop and get some more gas for the welder so I can finish fixing a few small holes around the back glass along the roof then I can start cutting stuff in with paint and doing the very much dreaded block sanding. Here are a few pics from tonight.

Here's how small the radiator is, look at the gap in the opening for the core support. That's where it's supposed to mount to.
It seams to me that an awful lot of air would go by the radiator instead of through it. I guess that's why the fan is there to
pull it thought though

Its looking good ,lots of work you have got done . I have done nothing but cut and split firewood ,nothing on the toys .

Thanks flash! I know what ya mean about the wood. It's our main heat source (I have central heat but refuse to pay the price of propane) and I have enough to get through February but if march is real cold I'll probably have to cut and split some more, which is what I should do now, but..... All work and no play is no fun!!

I probably have enough to last through half of next winter but dont want to chance it .I have a propane furnace too but try not to let it kick in .

That looks like a 6 cylinder radiator. The top plate does also. The V8 top plate is held down by 4 bolts and not 3. The six cylinder core support has a filler plate on each side of the radiator to keep the air from passing by. I have a chrome top plate if you need one.

I would say that smaller radiator was factory. They must have used them in the smaller V-8 non-A/C cars too. Here's the sticker that was on mine before I sandblasted it off. It say something about the 250hp V-8 idle speed.

Dang I just bought a chrome one from JEGS last night. It was pretty cheap, plus I need a few other things. Thanks for the offer though!

My 69' is a factory L48 300 HP, 4 speed car. It had the three bolt top plate and a small radiator from the factory.

I am swapping to the HD cooling - bigger radiator, 4 bolt top plate, and 772 clutch fan.

Well I was able to work on the car almost all weekend long. Got quite a bit done too. First thing I was able to do was rebuild the whole steering column, pulled everything apart cleaned, greased and painted it. Haven't decided which steering wheel to go with yet though. Next thing I took care of was the swapping the smaller radiator with the larger and making brackets to mount the electric fans from that Ford Windstar that I got from the junkyard. I hooked both of them up to make sure they worked and I tell ya what those things move a TON of air! Still waiting on a couple things to get here I had to order to finish it up. Also moved some parts from storage to the garage and vica versa. I cleaned the floors, packing tray, and insides of the quarters so I can finish primering the rest of the interior and took all of the trim down that holds the headliner in place. The rest of the afternoon I sanded the roof down to get all the rust off of it. Here are a few pictures.
