That's a nice 66'.

My dad owned a 66' SS 396 for two weeks back in 1968. (He was barely 18) Was showing off for a friend, going through the gears, someone backed out in front of him. Totaled that poor car and nearly killed his friend.

Took mine to a Memorial Day show for Veterans today. Glad to support our Veterans and those serving when I can.

I got another tank of watery gas on saturday and have been trying to drive most of it out after adding gas treatment to the tank along with premium fuel too.I then changed the plugs and it is now running good again which is good as we are leaving in it for a two week vacation next weekend .

I mentioned in another post that I couldn't get the Chevelle started and towed it home from my neighbors. Finally got around to dropping the fuel tank. Sure enough, 2 big cracks in the hose right where it connects to the sending unit. Now I have to see if can get it back in, it was wedged in between the frame rails and tailpipes. I had to pry it out, hope I don't have to drop the exhaust to get it back in.

Took the Chevelle to Heaven's Landing for the WannaGoFast 1/2 mile race Saturday. The car broke down in the burnout box on me. 1st time I have ever had the car break while racing so I guess I was over-due as it has seen some abuse. Wasn't sure what happened at the time but lost the clutch. I did the burnout and could tell something was a little off, had to force it into reverse to stage and when I went to put it back into 1st, it did not want to go at all. Then as I am rolling into the beams, the car kept stalling (which was due to the clutch not holding and dragging the motor down.) Was able to pull it off to the side, and fluid began pouring from the bottom of the car.

Sitting broken off to the side at the starting line

Thankfully I trailered it to the race (approx 3 hours away) but was pretty frustrated to have lost out on the registration money. If you are not familiar, these events are not cheap.

Anyway got it home and put it in the garage until Sunday. Woke up early and put my MaxJax 2 post lift to work for the first real time. Pulled the transmission and found the throw-out bearing was obliterated. I guess that is the good news, as it was only $65 to replace + most of my Sunday.

The lift helped but my crappy harbor freight transmission jack did not work quite as well as I had hoped.

The carnage

$300 entry fee and 6 hours of driving, all because of this $65 part going bad during the burnout.

Once repaired and back together - Celebration/frustration burnout leaving the basement driveway

I been doing yard and garden work like I said. We going to Gatlinburg monday on vacation. When I get back I will make my order for the chevelle.
I was sorting parts and moving them to the bench. E brake cables and brake lines. It about time to get that done so i can move it around better.

I want to get it in the sun on a hot day this summer so it gets real hot for putting the top on. I need to get a new heat gun for that to. Old one said I done a while back.

I did a test spray on a extra red arm rest. See if it is what I want. It looks perfect. I been tossing it across the floor and scraping it with screwdrivers. See if it is tough enough for use. Parts I am using are black already so if it mean enough for red it good enough to spruce up the old parts.

Drained the rear end and was pleasantly surprised to see what I was told was true. Had a brand new Eaton Posi unit with 3:55 Richmond gears and new axles. Also installed the new gas tank. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/z...pscepc8w5i.jpg
