She's in pain Gary, it's tearing her up. I'm not saying it's right but it's her way of dealing with it. At a time like this she probably wants her mom and that obviously doesn't work. Don't try to understand it, it is what is. Everybody deals with situations like this in their own way.

Awe...

I take it that was a family decision. Poor Maureen, she is watching her mom fade away.

I remember you saying that Maureens sibling/siblings are not much help a while back. Have they stepped up since things are getting worse?

Lindsay knows what's going on and I'm sure she understands. Like I said before, you, Lindsay, whoever is close is going to catch hell. Fair, no, but that's the way it is.

Depending on overall health her mom could last a week, sounds like less in her case. It's hard to watch someone fade away so try to understand what Maureen is going through. Mom's and adult daughters can have an awful strong bond. Women don't accept that this is a part of life the way men do either. The next few days are going to be bad, not for her mom but for Maureen. In her state her mom's body will just slowly shut down. It sounds cruel but it's not. The hunger passes and they don't feel any pain. The organs just shut down until it's over. Not easy to watch, we watched Lynda's father go that way, but it's not cruel, they go peacefully.

Hang in there Gary, your best friend is having her insides ripped out right now. It will be over soon and it will get better.

Gary,Maureen doesnt realize what she is saying or doing is hurting you and Lindsay. She is in survival mode and stressed out and may never realize how hard things have been for you. Just hang in there and give her space when she needs it and hugs and support when you can. Her medical problems also dont help ,been there .More than anything she needs your understanding and support. You have our support ,we will help if we can.

Gary:

Just saw this thread. All of your family are in my prayers!!! No offense to anyone as there have been many good posts but I think Hank says it best. Be there for Maureen and for Lindsay as they will both need you.......

I know you have to work Gary but being by her side, you don't have to say a word, just being by her side is probably the best thing you can do for her.

EDIT: It's like going to a funeral. The person has passed on, there is nothing you can do for them. You go to show your support for the loved ones that are still here.

Certainly, but you can also do that in your own private way. The important part is being there and the support your presence gives the family, loved ones. Just seeing you, even if they don't have time to spend with you makes a big difference. I've had more than one person tell me that. The fact the I was there meant a lot to them.

So how are things today Gary? I have been thinking about you and your family today. I hope that Maureen is taking care of herself.
