Dave that's pretty interesting to hear. When I'm listening to older music sometimes, I wonder what would happen if it was played on the radio again...would people react the same way? If a song is timeless or somehow relevant, it could be a hit all over again. The kids now hear something that is a cover or uses a sample from 30 years ago when music was great, and think it is completely original. They have no idea.

I try to influence what my boys like too. They both like music with a "beat", like R&B or hip hop. I let them listen to Booker T & the MGs, some James Brown, the Meters, some disco, jazz, and other reasonably innocent, but still cool stuff like that.

I chose the screenname Highway Star because it is a song about a fast car, and also because of the gut-wrenching highway gears in my Chevelle, along with the fact that it seemed to make sense because I was also doing 200 miles of highway driving a day for work at the time, with no end in sight.

When my son heard the song in Wayne's World he went on and on about it. "Dad, you have to hear this!"
"Son, that song is older than you are."

They're using a lot of the old classic rock songs in commercials and TV shows. A lot of old cars as well. I think they're geared for our generation, not the younger generation. We are the 'boomers' and supposedly have all the money.
