Does one ever outgrow the desire to do burnouts?
I'm getting up in years, but from the days of my 73 Z/28 until today I still enjoy doing burnouts. The Mustang has only put fuel on the fire,as I really enjoy getting a red light now.Maureen and my neighbors just shake their heads.Do I need counseling?

Yes ,and more burnouts . Your counseling is also free here .

I hope not cause I love it

When I read the title of this post I just smiled. I kinda figured that you had done a burnout with the Mustang within a day or two of getting it. :)
As far as your question...Hell No ! I think from the first time that I did a burnout in a '69 charger, I was hooked. Every car that I have ever owned I have either done, or tried to do a burnout (those front wheel drive vehicles can be a bitch to do one in). I love the month of August around here. Everyone is getting ready for the Woodward Dream Cruise and you see every make and model of car with the young and old driving them. We pull up a lawn chair on the side of the road and just sit and watch. It is funny watching the young guys trying to do a burnout (those are the ones you really need to watch out for cause they are all over the road). Now I will say that the older crowd does do a much better burn out. I think it is from all the years of practice. Personally, I think a burnout is a must. Don't we have to make sure that everything is working properly ? |
What do you mean, within a day or two? Me and Linds did one pulling out of the dealership after I signed the papers.Waving

Well Gary if you think you have a problem, Hank, Tony and myself are with you with Tony being our leader, his driveway looks like a dragstrip burnout box and he is lucky his brakes are as good as they are or he would end up in going through his back garage. I haven't see Ray do one yet with his Chevelle but I have heard he has.

BTW, Gary you do not counseling but that has nothing to do with the burnouts. :butt1: |
In my book the answer is never, I lite em up whenever my kids want me too.

I have a neighbor who has got to be pushing 90. Last summer he saw me driving down the street and told me that he thought I was driving my car like an old lady (this was right after the new trans). So before I put the car away for the winter I drove up to his house and laid down some really nice tracks. Next time he saw me he had a big smile on his face and told me that he knew I had it in me.

One of my favorite quotes from Lindsay is when we picked up the black car.She said"Dad,are you going to drive this like a pussy?"Well, actually I do.
|
Joan wont let me do burnouts in the vert .

I took a cop buddy for a spin in the Nomad a few days ago. A really good ride. When we got back home, I LIT that thing up!. He had never been in a car when it did a 6 grand hole-shot. Mighta scared him a little when the Mad went all sideways.
When I come down the street in one of the cars, all the kids that are out playing RUN to my driveway. They always get a smoke show. |
Gary, did you go trough a set of tires yet in that Ford?

That last burn out I tried to do on the street I shot the driveshaft out the back of the car. (that was a little embarrassing.) I don't rev it up and dump the clutch anymore. Luckily, I don't have to. I just let the clutch out easy now, get 'im rolling, then hammer on it. The back wheels spin up just fine. ...and without all the shock to the driveline. Gotta love the torque of a big block! :D
That was the long answer. The short answer is YES! I still lay some down from time to time! :D |

I still do some, but not as many now that I buy expensive tires.

The blue '69 is the KING of burnouts!!! :ntwrthy: |
Will we ever grow up? Ha
|
Man, I've done burn-outs with everything that I ever owned that would turn a tire. I will be doing them on the way to the cemetary when they plant me.
Ric, I've been pretty lucky about not breaking too much stuff. Like Hank says, if I break something, it needed to be stronger anyway. I got caught in a pretty good rain with the Nomad on Saturday morning. The tires break loose real easy on a wet road. Nice Bill...I likes me some "smoke shows". |
Dana B was definitely KING of burnouts with his blue 69 Chevelle ,boy I miss that.

All three of those Chevelles pictured in my post are extremely well known....including multiple feature coverage in a few national car magazines. |
Gary, I think you missed the humor in Bill's post... those burnout pictures include 2 pictures of Bill himself doing burnouts, as well as his brother-in-law Dana in the blue 69, and close friend Mike Norman in the '65.
