Shop news!

Well, it finally happened. I outgrew my garage at home. I've been running my shop out of my home garage but lately I just don't have enough room to get anything done. I end up working in the driveway most of the time which makes me short on parking for my own cars.

Wednesday I sign the lease for my new building. It's only 900 sq ft, but it's a start. I can finally finish off the Chevelle and the C-cab. It'll be nice to work indoors for a change. It'll be even nicer to have my home driveway back. :D

If you're close by, stop in for the shop-warming party!

Congrats on your new shop

Sounds great. I have to work on the Chevelle in the garage or in the driveway. Just enough room in the garage to get around it, makes working on it hard. 900 sg ft should give you plenty of room.

Congrats on the new shop...hope you show us pics.
I sure wish my garage was bigger.
im lucky im not into 68 cadilacs.

Congrats! My father's cramped garage is 720 sq feet. And extra 180 would be helpful at times.

Congrats Alan. I have a cramped space in my 1 car garage. But we do what we have to do. Glad you will have a little more room to work.

Congrats on the new shop ,mine would be plenty big enough if I would quit collecting stuff.

shadowgray396 08-26-2013 07:44 PM

Build it and you will fill it. Or you will have help from friends you never knew you had.

I have a two car garage right now. Tiff's Impala has to stay outside while the C-cab and the Chevelle take up the garage space. I had a tent up in the driveway for a couple years and painted a few cars in the tent as well. I just have no desire to keep going like that. I need to separate the business from the home and get some elbow room in the process.

This is what I'm dealing with right now. It's a little cramped when I get two cars in there and try to do something too.

These next two are older, so I've accumulated a few pieces here and there.

This is where most of the work gets done right now. I sure will be glad to get indoors. Especially with fall and winter coming.

Soooooo, yeah. I'm ready for a bigger shop. :D

shadowgray396 08-26-2013 10:16 PM

I think you are going to need a bigger shop. Looks like a lot of things to move. Lol

earthquake68 08-27-2013 07:20 AM

You can see why I'm excited to move. :D

I agree with Ray. Are you going to have enough room in the new shop ? lol

earthquake68 08-27-2013 10:28 PM

What sounds better, I think or I hope? :D

I still have my home garage, so I can use some space here for storage, too. The new place is twice the size of the garage. My hope is that with essentially three times the space I have now, I'll have enough room. .....but we all know how that goes.

I got the Chevelle moved over to the new shop tonight. The best part is I drove it there! I've been waiting on one of three people to deliver on letting me borrow a trailer, but none of them have come through yet. ....funny how that works sometimes. In any event, most of the equipment and parts that are supposed to go, are there. I still have to move the milling machine, air compressor, work bench, parts washer, and tool box. (you know, all the really heavy stuff!)

shadowgray396 09-03-2013 11:11 PM

The heavy stuff that needs to be moved is when you know who your friends are. Lol. Sounds like you are on your way getting the shop you wanted to have. Congrats agan.

Well, it's a week later and the shop is almost ready for the first customer. I spent this weekend trying to get everything straightened out and put away. I still have to move the milling machine over to the new shop and build another set of shelves, but so far, I'm diggin' all the room I have. The Impala will come back home until I'm ready to work on it. I just put it in there so it would be out of the way while we were moving stuff out of the old shop.

Anyway, here's what it looks like tonight. (note all the room around the Chevelle) :D

Love all the room you have.

earthquake68 09-08-2013 10:41 PM

John. Thanks! It's still a work in progress, but it's getting there.

Ray. ME TOO! :D
