Ignition question

Ok so I have a Ford SVT Raptor.
Thursday afternoon my wife had to use it to bring some parts to the platers for our company. After she dropped the parts off she tried to start the truck and the key would only go half way in the ignition. She went back inside and had the plater try, no luck. He then walked over to the body shop and had one of the guys there try, nope no luck.
I had the truck towed 30 miles to where I bought it and yesterday they called and said "someone had to have tried to steal your truck and broke something off inside, that's the only way the key would not go in". "we can't fix this under warranty, it will cost you 500 bucks.

This is total bs. No body messed with that truck. My shop parking lot is private, and my vehicles are in my view all day. My wife was away from it for maybe two minutes and when she came back it was still locked. I doubt a crook would lock it up after a failed attempt at stealing it. Plus no sign of breaking in anyway.

What is really tickin me off is the fact that they didn't tear it apart. They just assume if the key doesn't go in something has to be in there.
I told them I want it taken apart and prove to me there's something in it.

Here's my question
is it not possible for tumblers to break?
If they did could it stop the key from going in?
I'm gonna fight them on this but I don't know if it will get me any where.

I'm sure a tumbler could jam and not allow the key to go all the way. Good luck getting it taken care of.

$500 for a lock cylinder? I'm in the wrong business. Take it to a locksmith and have them set up a new cylinder for the old key. It shouldn't mess with the security system. It also shouldn't be more than $100. I got two new door cylinders matched to my ignition key in my 'Vette for $60. (plus the cost of the door handles) Some nerd broke not one, but BOTH of my door handles trying to break in a few years ago.

I've also had to fight about warranty work on newer vehicles. They won't do a thing for you until you get angry with them. Mention the better business bureau and they tend to listen a little harder.

The dealership still has my truck so I'll wait till tomorrow and see what they say. If they man up and are willing to take responsability and fix it under warranty then I'll go that route, if not I'll have it towed back to my house and call out a lock smith.

If it really is a 500 dollar job ( which I doubt ) Im sure as hell not gonna give it to ford.

It's a $500 job at the dealer. Having a new lock cylinder made might be cheaper but I'm sure it will be more than a door cylinder.

I got a call back from Ford Tuesday night, they said there is no sign of tampering so it will be fixed under warranty.
