I found out today that the discomfort and solid gut I've been feeling lately is a hernia. The doc said it is a ventral hernia and it runs from my belly button to just below my sternum. I may have to have surgery to fix it, but not until after the new year. Has anyone here had hernia surgery? Any input would be appreciated.
thanks, Mike

My son has had several, four actually, one last week Monday. His were all small, up high around the belly button. For him, outpatient surgery, minor pain, discomfort and no lifting for a month or so. Yours sounds like it's a little more but it's not considered major surgery. They stitch the muscles up, maybe stitch in a piece of mesh if needed. They don't have to go in and rearrange your insides. Not saying there's nothing to it but in most cases it's not too bad.
Talk to the surgeon, he can tell you what to expect. Good luck, you'll be fine. |

Thanks for the well wishes. Luckily I work in an office, so recovery shouldn't be as bad as someone who actually has to work for a living. LOL

grumpy had hernia surgery, 3 of them actually. I remember them all. The first one the doctor didn't think was that bad and he actually tried to "push" it back in. The second one was more severe and I am pretty sure close to what you have. Well after a week, he had to go back and have them redo the surgery because it "popped" the stitches. This time they put the screen in. This was over 10 years ago and if he gains a few pounds he says that he feels the screen and sometimes it feels like it is going to burst.
I wish you the best. Just do your research on the surgery. And DON'T LIFT ANYTHING after the surgery. That is the best advice I can give you. Good Luck.
