Default Elusive map light rear view mirror

My 70 SS has the rear view mirror with the map light and is showing signs of age. (mirror needs to be re-silvered...) I would like to replace it, however, my extensive searches to locate one have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know of a parts company who sells this type of mirror? My only other alternative is to take it apart and have the glass re-silvered.

Thanks
Mike

First off welcome to the site.

Here a couple of places I have read about:

Silver Service, Inc.
16120 Vandustrial Drive
South Holland, IL 60473
708-331-5501

A Moment In Time
107 West Lincoln #303
Wellington, KS 67152
316-529-2790

[email protected]

She charges $75 plus $10 shipping for a 10 inch mirror.
$85 plus shipping for a 12 inch.

They will take apart the mirror and replace the glass.

The Mirror Lady has gotten high marks in the past and based upon the comments, I'm sure that she does exceptional work. But if all that the mirror needs is to have the glass resilvered, $85 bucks is pretty pricey. It's not that hard to get the glass out and put back in after it has been resilvered

As for the mirror itself, with a little patience and a heat gun or hair dryer, you can soften the plastic ring to peel it back to remove the glass. The glass is not flat. It is tapered from top to bottom in order to provide the day/night feature so replacing it with a flat piece of mirror will not work.

Default Elusive map light mirror

Thanks for the welcome! I will surely give the mirrorlady a shot since I've not been able to locate a new one anywhere. Is the mirror affixed in any way besides the gray rubber ring around the edge?

thanks!

May have just a little glue around it, but a heat gun should do the trick. If you send it to the mirrror lady she does it all for you and you don't have to take it apart.

Sounds like I need to get ahold of the mirror lady. I replaced my mirror because of the discoloring of the glass, but I kept the old one. Thanks Ray.

So I shipped my map lighted mirror assembly off to the mirror lady today. Thank you Ray for the great lead. It was $75, plus the $10 shipping. She actually disassembles and replaces the glass with all new glass, silvers it and cleans the entire assembly. Additionally, she will replace the light bulb and install all new wiring and the connector for another $15. Not a bad deal considering I was unable to find a new one anywhere in the known universe... I'll post a picture upon its return.

Makes me wish I would have taken a before picture. I'll send an note to the mirror lady and ask her to take one before she starts working on it.

Amazing mirror rebuild!!! The pictures are here! Joyce (mirror lady) completed the refurb of my map light mirror for the 70 SS. Here are the before and after pics. What an amazing job she did. The old light bulb receiver was loose inside - with bad bulb, and the connector was also shoved inside and broken. The mirror now looks brand new with new light bulb, new wire and connector refit, new mirror glass and completely polished. The outside looks better than new. Thank you again Ray for the great recommendation. I highly recommend Joyce for any mirror refurbishment. ([email protected])
