Those are cool presents. I wish grumpy's air gun interest were that inexpensive.

I got my daughters to shoot around 9 and 10. My youngest is turning 9 in a week and a half. I think it's time she got into shooting as well. I agree on getting them acclimated. My 13 year old has her own .22. (she's a darn good shot, too) She's fired my AK47, AR15 and my UR308 sniper rifle. They all know how to use a rifle, how to break one down and clean it, and the safe way to handle it. Like was stated before. There's no mystery or magic. It's just another appliance with a very specific use. They all know it, so it's no big deal to them. It would be like any other kid playing with the blender. They know what it's for. They've seen it used before. There's no need to sneak around and play with it when nobody's around.

As many of you know, I have never been a gun fan because when I was younger I had a shotgun aimed at my head when I was managing a restaurant.

BUT... I did agree with grumpy when he said it was time that our kids learned about gun safety. So I agreed to let him purchase air rifles for the kids. Now I know many people don't think that air rifles are real guns, but I will tell you that grumpy owns one that will take out a deer. To me that is a real gun.

The kids were taught gun safety, they have also been to indoor gun shoots/competitions as well as gun ranges. My 11 yr old daughter is a natural, she doesn't even try and does really well. My 13 son only wants to shoot dad's expensive guns, which doesn't make dad happy. lol

I am really glad that they have learned how to hold a gun, how to use a gun, and how to make sure the safety is on. I still am not a fan and have never shot one, but I am glad that the kids have the knowledge to keep themselves safe.

I believe I was given a .22 rifle around age 8 or 9. I totally agree with everyone who thinks this is the right way. I had that .22 and a bb/pellet gun for years. I actually didn't purchase my first handgun until I was 27 years old. I didn't have a need or want for anything else until that time. I had a gun pointed at me one time too many - and decided that I refused to be a victim from that point on. In the past six years I have never had to shoot anyone. The media blows things way out of proportion. If we take guns from the law abiding people, only criminals will have guns.

The problem is, that it is way easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they have been fooled.

And if you need room in your garage, and if you need someone to keep your Chevelle...just let me know. I will gladly take it off your hands so you have room for the new Vette.
