Old license plates...

I had contacted the Sec. of State and was told since the plate had never been registered that I would be able to use it.

But I kinda like having my personalized plate.

Also, the Berkley police LOVE to pull me over. At least once a month one of the cops pulls me over ... luckily enough, just to talk. Most of the cops here know where I live and have worked in the city for many years and have seen the transformation from that bright Orange to the Black.

One small loop hole in regards to the "Dealer" plate. As long as it has just the letter "D" on the plate instead of the word "Dealer" printed on the plate it's ok to register.

A color photocopy, a color scan, or color photograph of the license plate (passenger, commercial, trailer, or motorcycle). Do not mail the actual plate. Personalized, government, law enforcement, manufacturer, dealer, in-transit repair, disability, and special purpose plates cannot be used as authentic license plates. If in doubt, check with the department before purchasing a license plate.
Proof of ownership, preferably a copy of the vehicle title
Proof of Michigan no-fault insurance (not required for trailers)
$35 -- make checks or money orders payable to State of Michigan
