Default Teach An Old Dog New Tricks

I just picked up a used IPOD with some good songs on it and some not so good ones .How do I remove the Rap Crap that I dont care for and keep the good old classic rock that I do like. Also how do I add songs I have on CD'S already in my home collection? Thanks for any help as my new old truck does not have a radio.

I know for a fact you'll have to sign up for iTunes and all of your editing will be done there. The issue I think you'll have is that it will erase all of the songs that are on there already since they will not be registered to you. For using you own music it will tell you how to load them to iTunes. Do a search on google and see what the tech heads say.

David is the kinda the tech guy when it comes to the ipods. The kids have bugged the heck out of him to get the songs they want. He agrees with Ric, the minute you hook it up to your computer it is going to know that it is not yours, and like Ric said, it will erase them the minute you hook up to itunes.

If you can live with the rap crap, I would, just so you can have some tunes in your truck. For now anyway.

I forget how to delete the music that's already on there but instead of doing that just create your on playlist with no rap on it. And to download CD's create an iTunes account and see if it will let you download them to your account so you can put them on your iPod. Might not work if the previous owner had an iTunes account.

I am going to look and see if we still have an old Ipod hanging around. If I do, and can find one, I will send it your way so you don't have to go thru all the trouble. Especially since you said your internet is not the best because of where you live.

Well this old dog did learn a few new tricks on the music thing . I went to Walmart looking for an IPOD (A CHEAP ONE)and the cheapest thing they had was over $100 so I looked at MP3 players and got one for $25 . I read the instructions and hooked it to my computer and found that it contained the software needed to transfer (Rip as they call it) the music from my CD collection without dealing with ITUNES .So far I have ripped 50 of my favorite CD's to my MP3 player with room for at least that many more .Now all I have to do is get some radio's installed (I have them) that I can plug the MP3 into.

I haven't worked with an IPOD, but Debian (and Debian derivatives such as Ubuntu) Linux offers several tools for communicating and working with the ipod without going through itunes. It also has a fair selection of "rippers". It's been awhile since I ripped any, so none loaded at the moment to tell you a name of a good one. Cool thing is, it's all free, the Linux OS and the rippers and communications protocols.

If you have a spare computer or even a spare Harddrive/partition, you might try downloading a version of either Debian or Ubuntu (I prefer Xubuntu, put that is personal preference) and work with it for awhile.
