Welcome to the site first off. 4 speed or automatic? So far the only thing I see that might makes it a clone is the stripes, and an SS emblem on the grille. The stripes on the trunk look narrow to me. Other wise it just a malibu. I totally understand the work that goes into one of these cars and it's easy to spend a lot of money very quickly. Would like to see a picture of the dash. When doing a car you never get what you put into one. I will say up front I like these cars closer to original look. For me I would not pay more then 15 to 20k for it. The motor might be worth a lot to a 66 vette owner.

Tranny is 4l80e o/d 4 speed auto, seller says stripes are exact, the car was professionally painted 6 years ago.
He also has stated that the tinkering that needs to be done are, speedo needs to be calibrated to tranny and tire sizes, wipers have never been hooked up, needs 3 a/c lines made then charged the system, small chip in the paint on hood, interior was just done except the seats, small tear in front not original, crack in rear that is original |

I still hold firm on my price. To many changes for me that don't add value to the car. It's not really a clone or a tribute car the way it's built. At auction I beleive it would go for around 15K. I enjoy all Chevelle no matter how they are built, but if you are looking for a car that will go up in value a more true Chevelle will. This car will only be purchased from a small group of people. It's painted resale red for a reason. I sure it is quick. Looks to me you are sold on it and that's great. Go for it if you really want it.
This car is about the same money that the guy wants for the car you are looking at. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/3663646014.html

Welcome to the site, are you from around MASS? I've seen this car on CL now for a year and I agree with Ray on the 15-20k estimate. There was a really nice 70 ss green on green restored with buildsheet and 4spd for 22k I think a few days ago. Let's me see if I can find it.

While I'm not an expert, It doesn't look too much like a clone to me. Custom job.
Rear stripes too narrow. Cowl hood is way high. Does it actually function, or just for looks? No console? Shouldn't the dash have three large rounds, Tach, Speedo and clock? No side emblems, no rear emblems, no trunk emblem (holes for Chevelle emblem look to be filled even) and no cowl emblem. To be honest, the whole fit on that hood looks off to me. Wheels look ok, but not original for a '70. Definitely aftermarket aluminum and look more like the wheels for a '71 or '72 SS. Not saying they are bad or even bad looking, just not '70 SS looking. I plan on going to same way with mine, but actually going for some that look a lot closer to '70 SS rims. Matching numbers motor for a '66 vette? Ok, then it would be a numbers matching car if the vin/motor code matched that car, otherwise, I'm not for sure what he means by numbers matching. Sounds like a nice motor, but, was the 427 even offered in the '70 SS's? 4L80E definitely wasn't. Hotchkis suspension? OK, what part? What performance level? Touring or drag suspension? I'm guessing touring because of the 17 inch wheels, but that is just a guess. I also cannot tell if it was lowered any. The rear does look a bit down, so maybe. He may have 30K into it, I cannot say. But the condition and things I noted, that is a 10K, 15K if your lucky, around OK or TX and definitely not a clone in my opinion. But that is just my opinion, if you really like the car, it may be worth what he is asking to you. Take a look around the web, you may find a deal that is right for you. As you look, you will also see what we mentioned and get a better feel for what you are looking at. Decide if custom is good for you or do you want true original looks and feel. Personally, I don't mind some custom. Heck, I'm planning on putting a TPI style fuel injection in mine. |

Thanks guys, looks like im just going to pass it was a trade deal in which my stuff is worth around 17k and i offered him 2k with it as when he came to me for the trade he asked for cash also. But he wants 7k on top of my stuff. Sounds like he is a dreamer, especially if its been on there for almost a year
Maybe, hopefully i can find another one |
