Florida guys...AC in shop?
I just finished building a 40x60x14 shop down there. Post and beam construction, metal roof and sidewalls, 6" sidewalls, with 6" of spray foam insulation. I have some miscellaneous tools and equipment in the building that were there all summer. The humidity has caused some rust to start showing up. When I go out there in the morning, it is 10-15 degrees warmer than outside temperature. I open both garage doors to let it cool off, but then the humidity gets to everything. So the question is, short of a full AC system, what do you guys do about the heat and humidity? I have a huge fan that I have been pulling air through the building with, but am not satisfied with that. I am thinking that AC is the only way to go, but I see lots of buildings that do not have any AC. Do you just put up with it and get used to it?

They make dehumidifiers,
My buddy has a shop bigger than my house. Hit 2nd gar pulling in to park things big. It is I beam and metal. Yea it has some surface rust. But it 25 years old and it don't seem to be getting worse. He just deals with it. It is real humid here.

There are 2 types floor and one that mounts on the wall. I prefer the wall mount ones for a shop. Out of the way and can put them up high.
I have done HVAC work on the side and in the past. Got the licence to do repairs but not new installs. So locked out of the money dept. LOL. So I have dealt with them before. Just got to run a hose outside somehow for the drainage. They basically a mini air conditioner. They have a metal plate it cools which collects the moisture and it runs into a pan then to a drain hose. They work a no maintenance situation once they are installed. Mount it, 110 plug on one end, and a drain hose on the other is all you got to deal with. Pretty basic to put in.

My folks have a 24 X 30 with 10' ceilings, it has central heat and air. We rarely use it, as the building doesn't have adequate insulation. The heat helps in the winter. During the summer, we have three large fans running. And pretty much suffer through the heat.

My father pretty much goes out early... no later than 7 AM. Then is usually done by 10-11. Too hot and humid for him at that point. Me, I am 29 years younger than him. So I just work until I can't stand it anymore. Then I take a quick swim in their pool before heading home.

Man, it was hot when I started working at 4 or 5 in the morning! Some of the guys down there said pretty much that is what they do. Most quit by noon, then take a siesta. If they have something that has to be done, usually after 5 they hit it again. I'm finding out that things in Florida are MUCH slower paced than they are here in Michigan. And man, can people talk! Everybody seems to never be in a hurry, unlike me.

The "native Florida crackers" are VERY laid back. We transplants are more hurried by their standards. They find us to be loud, obnoxious, and rude. It's a funny contrast that takes some getting used to.
