Default Can't think of a good title..

...so I'll just start. Some if you know our daughter Susan went out to L.A. area a number of years ago as a travel nurse. While there she decided she wanted to become a CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She attended USC for 2 years, got her masters degree and as been a practicing CRNA for over a year know.

The CRNA union is changing the requirements to become a CRNA to include a doctorate degree. Susan doesn't have to get a doctorate since she's already a CRNA but was looking into it. She felt it would help in the future. She also wants to teach maybe one class a week and a doctorate would help. So she checked around and found a program at Cal State. Wrote a paper and applied for entrance to the program last week. On Monday she went for an interview and was told she would hear in a week or two if she was accepted.

Well they called her on Tuesday, the next day, and said she was in. I talked to her on Wednesday, she wasn't sure if she was going to accept the position. $38,000 for an 18 month course. She just finished paying us back the money we loaned her when she went for her masters. She still has student loans to pay back as well. I told her the Bank of Mom and Dad was still open for business and we could loan her the money if she wanted to do it.

They also told her to apply for the Jonas Salk Leadership Award, a $10,000 scholarship, based on the paper she wrote, so she did. Well she called us while we were at the restaurant tonight and said she got it. Plus another donor is adding another $10,000! So she's getting $20,000, pretty sure she'll accept now.

Just wanted to share, we're kind of proud of our girl.

Way to go Hank. You have every right to be proud of Susan. Looks like both of your kids turned out pretty good. Has a lot to do with Lyndas' and your parenting skills.

We asked for details and Susan said it's $10,000 from the Jonas Leadership Scholarship and $10,000 for participation in Jonas Nurse Scholar program. She gets $10,000 the first year, $8,000 the 2nd year and $2,000 for attending a leaders conference in Washington after graduation.

Maybe the info above is correct this time, who knows. Susan is not good at details like that. Hope she pays better attention to the details when she's in the OR putting someone to sleep. I guess she does because so far they've all lived.

Thanks guys, she is a go getter. Not sure how much we had to do with it but glad both kids are doing well and we'll never have to worry about them. Now if we could get them to worry about Mom and Dad, I wouldn't mind a little financial assistance. Thank God Ric is still working and funding Social Security for me and Tony.

Hopefully I got it straight this time. $10,000 Jonas Nurse Leadership Scholarship and a spot in the Jonas Nurse Scholar Program. A $10,000 match from a private donor because she was accepted into the Jonas Nurse Scholar Program. Payout is what I said before. I know it doesn't make any difference to you guys but I just wanted to get the details right. Still amazes me how hard it is for her to convey the details and do the type of work she does.

Congrats to her. School cost so much now. My daughter owes like 50k for her masters in Nursing and the son in laws owes another 30k. No wonder they move back home. can't buy a house with that kind of debt.

It is crazy Ray. I know our daughter's loans were pushing $100,000 from getting her masters. In the CRNA program the students aren't allow to work. So in addition to the school costs she had 2 years of other bills, all on student loans except what she borrowed from us.

Don't know if your daughter knows this. Send in the proper paperwork and they base your loan payments on your income from the previous year. So the first year they'll be small, maybe the 2nd year too. Anyway after 10 years, for nursing and other occupations, anything remaining is forgiven. Google student loan forgiveness.
