Have you ever trimmed your coils ?
Trying to figure out how much coil to cut from my new Hotchkis 1" lower springs.
Seems most people trim them about 1/2 a coil. Wondering how much more this would lower it. 1-2 inches ?

Do you have them installed yet? Ride height with Hotchkis springs seems to really be all over the place... some people end up too low (as if there is such thing
 ) and others end up sitting higher than it did with stock springs.

I did not measure the old spring height but they sagged worse then Phyllis Dillar. The new lowered springs sit much higher but all the weights still not in the car yet.
From reading a lot of the hotchkis spring threads on TC, it seems the majority cut 1/2 a coil out. Just curious how much more that dropped it.

are you sure the coils are sitting correctly. I had a friend that had the same issue...he jacked it back up and twisted the coil and low and behold it wasn't sitting right...he lowered it back down and made a world of difference. It just seems weird to purchase 1" Drop Coils to then have to cut them.

Wow, sounds like a major pain. Like Derek said, why do have to cut the coils off a lowering spring to get back to where you started?

|
First free spring height is no indicator of install height. you need to know load rate, spring rate and free height and you can figure installed height.
divide Spring rate into Load rate and then subtract that from free height = installed height. see below.  this is a list of oem spec springs and some others (moogs) if you know your front end weight you can replace the load rate with your cars front end weight and do math above and see if the that spring will raise or lower your car based on its weight.

Also spring rate is determined by number of coils and diameter of wire. cutting lowers them but makes them stiffer. i have heard 10% per inch but i don't know if that is per inch of coil cut off or inch of final height...

I took 1 coil off my fronts and it dropped the front little over an inch. Haven't noticed a stiffer ride but I did notice a better stance. Well I take that back it tends to get stiff here and there when my headers drag. Lol

also do not cut with a torch as it ruins the characteristics of the spring/metal.
