Default Chevelle in the banner.

Aren't those mirrors wrong for an SS car in '71?

No, unless you ordered sport mirrors. Not sure if that mirror was put on at the factory in 71 on the right side.

I need to correct what I said earlier. The SS package did come with a sport mirror but left side only but you could order it with the remote mirror instead.

D33 Outside Rear View Mirror, Remote Control $ 12.65. You have to remember there were a lot of things done by special order that were allowed. I don't thing the sport mirror was all that popular in 71, it seemed to catch on more in 72.

Right side mirrors were thought back then that they were not needed, unlike todays cars.

I thought a left remote sport mirror was standard on '71 Super Sports.

I have questioned that too... however, my girlfriend's aunt owns an original 71' SS 454 Chevelle. She bought it with fairly low miles sometime in the late 70's - early 80's. It has a chrome remote mirror on the driver's door only. Her car was built at the Arlington plant by the trim tag/build sheet. The car is very original body & interior-wise, and currently has only one repaint.

Wait, isn't the chevelle in the banner a 72 not a 71?

It looks like it has 71' side markers, with a 72' grille now that I really have eye-balled it.

Good catch, It's missing the center trim on it. 71 and 72 use the same grill, it's the trim package that was different I believe?

Wow people mess up the front ends of the 71s and 72s a lot. The second pic of the 72 has 71 headlight bezels. They are supposed to have the black around them like in 69 for 72. People need to start restoring these cars right.lol

So let me get this right. My 72 Malibu should have the black headlight bezels, or is it only for the SS ?
