Default New here

My name is Chris. I will be honest and up front. I don't own a Chevelle yet. I grew up helping my dad wrench on cars and listening to stories of him telling me about a 1967 Chevelle SS 396 he owned. With that being said my dad passed away June 23, 2012 at a pretty young age. He was 56 when he passed. I've been doing some research and I want to find a 1967 SS 396 to build in his memory. While I know it is next to impossible to find the exact car he owned, I would love to find it. I don't know too many specifics about his car though. I don't know the vin. All I know is that it was a 1967 SS 396 with a 4 speed manual. He bought it sometime in the early 1970's but don't know exactly when. He joined the Army in 1974 and I'm pretty sure he sold it then. He lived in Georgia. I just figured if anything I could gain some knowledge about Chevelle's from this forum.

Welcome and very sorry to hear about your dad passing away so young . Without the vin number it will be hard to find his car but building another one as a tribute to your dad is great .Good luck with your search ,if we can help we will .

Welcome Chris. Sorry about your dad, but I think it is really neat that you want to build a car in his name. When I started to do the rebuild on my car I never imagined that I would go as far as I did. But my love of cars started from my dad. I lost my dad at a young age and in his memory, I had this sign made to put in my back window cause I am pretty sure my dad is always riding with me, and I am pretty sure he has a big smile on his face.

Welcome Chris to the site. If your dad had a 67 SS then the Vin would have started with a 138. Sorry to hear about your dad and it's great you want to do a car in his memory. My advice to you is find one that is almost done or a good rust free car. Stay away from the big project cars. It cost far more money to restore one and time then what you think. I restored a 70 and if I had to do it over again I would have saved money finding one that only need minor thing done to it to make it my own.

Thanks Ray. I always hoped that if my dad was alive, that we would have built a car together. Instead, me and my brother Eric worked on my car.
