Thumbs down I guess people want a warranty from private sellers...

on used vehicles!

Got several texts today from the guy I sold my truck to back in April. Ranting about how he's had to put a radiator in it, water pump, etc. Also says the freshly rebuilt trans is toast. (made me wonder if there was any fluid in it) I got the firebird in trade from him. I do not even want to get into everything that was wrong with it. I didn't once text or contact him regarding any of it. It was a used car, and I expected some wear and tear. I did however let him know everything I had found out about the car when he contacted me today.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a USED vehicle is just that - used. Buyer beware, and be prepared to do maintenance based on age, condition, and mileage.

I drove that truck over two years with hardly an issue. I represented it based on how it treated me. I took it on the chin and paid for a trans rebuild right before I sold it. I guess I should have thrown in a used junkyard transmission and let it fly.

That's why I fill out a Bill of Sale that say Sold as is no warranty implied. And they sign it and I keep a copy.

Yup, same thing I do. But, doesn't keep people from crying the blues and trying to squeeze something out of you.

It seems that as of lately, more people are crying wolf when it comes to used vehicles. A used vehicle is just that, used. As "car people" we know that when we purchase a vehicle we will have to put money into it. I have always told my kids when you purchase a used vehicle under $3,000, expect to put the same amount into the vehicle over the next few years. May not always be true, but it has held true on 3 of the 4 used vehicles purchased by my kids.

I hope everything works out for you.

Oh it's done and over with. Made it known that the car I recieved from him wasn't nearly what he said it was. Lots of back pedaling ensued.

I've had a few of those myself. Including a guy that is still pissed to this day because I wouldn't help him out with a car I sold him a YEAR AND HALF earlier! It was a '79 Camaro with a 454 in it, a roll cage, aluminum racing buckets, etc. He was complaining that it wasn't dependable. Really? A heavily modified, 30 year car requires more maintenance than a new car? ...shocking. Never the less, I'm still the a-hole.

It's like they want a mechanic in a box when they purchase a vehicle. Proof that society really is that stupid. ::sigh::

Sold our daughters Sunbird a number of years back. There was nothing wrong with the car, she got her first job as a nurse and wanted a new car. Buyer called the next week and said the trans was fried, wanted his money back. No way, what the hell did you do to it? The trans was fine for the 2 years she drove it.
